In 2012, the varsity coach, JT, earned the Ed Owen Coach of the Year Award. This is a highly coveted national award. In addition, the prep coach, Michelle was nominated for the Dr. Robert Szyman Leadership Award. This award recognizes one individual each year nationally for their outstanding contributions to the NWBA Junior program. The Prep coach, Michelle will be eligible for this award for 3 years from this nomination.

Past Players with Great Achievements in Wheelchair Sports

Alex Grunstein is a former Dallas Jr. Wheelchair Mavericks teammate that played for the under 23 yr old world championships. For players, that is the next step to the Olympics. In 2006 he was a freshman playing at the Illinois Classic.

Gina McWilliams is a former coach that competed in several Paralympics in both basketball and volleyball (seated). Gina won a silver medal in wheelchair basketball at the 1999 Parapan American Games and competed on the women's wheelchair basketball team in 1995-2000.

Bobby Nickleberry is a former Dallas Jr. Wheelchair Mavericks player that was noted to be one of the 22 top wheelchair basketball players in the NWBA - 2010.

Erin Johnson played basketball for the Dallas Jr. Wheelchair Mavericks, competed on the SWAA sponsored track and field team, and competed in Greece in the Paralympics.

Jeff Sale was also a well know past member of the Dallas Jr. Wheelchair Mavericks and USA National Junior Team member. He was competative in tennis and achieved Runner Up ITA National Wheelchair Tennis Assoc Tier 1 Singles.
